Donna and Lyle Jenkins
Ontario, Canada
We live in Southern Ontario, Canada with our Wirehair Dachshunds, and Great Dane, Jewel. We are involved in Conformation, both in the USA and Canada. All of our dogs live with us as family pets and companions. I was introduced to Dachshunds when I was a girl and have been breeding Dachshunds most of my adult life. I was given my first Standard Wirehair Dachshund by my local veterinarian when I was 16 years old. He knew that my heart dog had been stolen and he wanted to make sure I had a dog to love. I took one look at the puppies and fell in love with the Wirehair coat and temperament. I have been hooked ever since. Lyle and I married in 1999 and he has come to have the same passion that I have for the dogs, especially our Wirehair Dachshunds, Great Danes and Bull Mastiffs. Lyle helps with the grooming and does all the handling at the shows.
We only breed occasionally and mainly for ourselves. Feel free to contact us about available puppies, if we don't currently have any puppies, we will gladly recommend one of our partner breeders that does.
Is This The Right Breed For You
The Dachshund, meaning "badger dog" in German, is a lively breed with a friendly personality and keen sense of smell. Known for their long and low bodies, they are eager hunters that excel in both above- and below-ground work. One of the most popular breeds according to AKC® Registration Statistics, they come in three different coat varieties (Smooth, Wirehair or Longhair) and can be miniature or standard size.
Dachshunds were first bred in the early 1600s in Germany. The goal was to create a fearless, elongated dog that could dig the earth from a badger burrow and fight to the death with the vicious badgers.
Dachshunds are lovable, playful companions, and an ideal pet for many homes, including those with children with appropriate supervision. They require moderate exercise, and can adapt to most living environments. Depending on their coat type, Dachshunds may need regular grooming.
